Post subject: What to do if your late with the mortgage? Posted: Wed Oct 22, 2008 2:34 pm |

A few months ago, my husband was laid off from work. The billls have been piling up and just recently he found a new job. I am now trying to pay all our outstanding bills, but I'm only paying a little bit on the balances due. One of the bills is our monthly mortgage. We have fallen behind on the payments. We really don'want to lose our house. Is there any programs available for people such as ourselves who are behind on their mortage?
I don't know what to do. Please give me some advice.

There are many people who are in the same situation as yourself. If you are two months late on your mortgage, chances are you no longer have a grace period. In fact, if you are 90 days late on your mortage, most lenders will not accept even a partial payment. You need to pay the entire amount or your lender will start the foreclosure process.
My suggestion is that you contact Homeownership Preservation Foundation. This is a national nonprofit group created by Congress to help people who are in the same situation. Their phone number is, (888) 995-HOPE. They should be able to help you and provide you with any further assistance.
