The warm weather is here and many people have the urge to clean their house and make repairs. So far I've been washing my dirty windows and painting some of the trim on my house. It's a great feeling to work outside after being stuck in the house for months during the winter season. So does anyone here have any special plans to do any repair work this season? How about cleaning? Do you have any special cleaning schedule that you follow every year during this time?

We have a routine that we follow regularly. We powerwash our entire house and deck area. We also have our landscaper clean out the bedding around our property and put in new flowers/plants and new mulch.

We also powerwash the driveway and have the carpets and tile cleaned through a service.

Always happy for spring to arrive.

Spring cleaning is always a good time to refreshen up the house. This year i am painting the entire inside of the house. So far I finished painting the kitchen and my next area to paint is the hallway that leads to the bedrooms. The kitchen alone took my 4 hours to paint and that included the ceiling. The hallway is a little bigger so that might take longer.

Here's a small tip I learned when painting. I purchased a large scrapper and every time I get close to the the floor border or the window, I place the scrapper close to the trim so I don't accidentally paint over it. It's a great way to save time and you don't have the hassle of covering the boarders with painter's tape.

I enjoy painting. This year I'm planning to paint my bedroom, but I'm having such a hard time deciding on which color to paint. I'm thinking of changing the color from mint green to a creamy beige. I have gone to the paint store to see the large display of colors and after while, I get so confused as to which color would look best on my walls. I was originally thinking of painting the walls a soft violet, but after looking at all the different shades of violet, I became so frustrated. All the shades of violet began to look alike to me so I decided to go with a neutral color, beige. I figure, I'll have an easier time decorating my room with a neutral color and I can purchase a violet comforter along with violet curtains to accent the room. I often wonder if only one who has problems deciding on a paint color?

I agree that the number of colors they have today is overwhelming. I was considering painting our family room a dark burgundy because I thought it would create a warm cozy feeing to the room. However, I realized that I might be selling the house within a few years and many perspective buyers don't like dark colors when looking at a house. Neutral colors are always more acceptable. So I decided to go with a simple white cream. Besides, I would hate to repaint the room again when it goes up for sale. This is much easier and less of a hassle for me.

Painting can be fun, but has anyone ever painted a popcorn ceiling before? I'm painting my dining room ceiling now and it's a real challenge. You need to take your time and make sure that you paint inside all the grooves. Normally when I paint a regular ceiling, I use a roller, but with a pop corn ceiling, I'm using a regular paint brush and it's taking twice as long to paint. Yuk. Does anyone have an easier way to paint a popcorn ceiling? I am open to any suggestions.

We painted our popcorn with regular latex ceiling paint. Make sure you buy a good brand so the quality of the paint shines through. If you feel the ceiling needs two coats be sure to wait until the first coat is thoroughly dry. That's where we ran into trouble. We didn't wait long enough to apply the second coat and the paint pulled down some of the popcorn while we were painting.

Overall, you can use a spray paint to make sure you coved the entire ceiling, but it can get messy. You can also use a roller with a deep nap. Simply go to your local paint store. They should be able to help you.

I painted the inside of my kitchen last year and it was very difficult. I now have a new respect for painters. I had to paint my kitchen ceiling and my back and neck ached for several weeks! It was horrible painting and looking up all the time. My arm got tired every few minutes and sometimes it got stiff.

In addition, I had to be so careful and not get any paint on the borders and floor. Even though I was careful and used blankets and rags, I still got paint all over the floor. Now I see why painters charge those prices. I could never do what they do every day of the week. I would only last one day on the job..lol.
