To increase the speed of the current site we are adding more severs to the mix. We plan on transitioning the main web server to a new production machine today (2/20/08). We do not expect this to cause any site downtime as we are currently running the systems in parallel at the moment and running through all the tests.

Once the new server goes live, we expect there to be a noticeable difference in speed. This new setup will allow us to scale more easily in the future. If you want to read more, check out this blog post on our bacterial growth.

A quick update. The server updates went off without a problem, mostly. There were a couple DNS propagation issues that may have led to a few minutes of downtime for some users. Now that the new infrastructure is in place, we have several optimizations to make next week.

There will be no site interruptions during these optimizations, but you will notice the site getting faster.
