Many people experience an increase in their rent over time. For some, this increase is too much for them to handle. Has anyone here experienced an increase in their rent that was too high or unfair? How much of an increase would it take for you to consider moving to a new location?
Usually, rent goes up as taxes and insurance rates rise. Do you feel this is a good excuse for raising your rent?

I currently live in an apartment located in Virginia. When I first moved into the place, I was paying $425 per month. Two years later, my landlord notified me that the rent will go up an extra $35 dollars. Three years later, the rent went up again another $45 dollars and a few months ago I was told the rent will increase another $35 dollars. I realize a landlord has to increase the price for rent as property taxes go up, but I think these increases are a bit extreme. Maybe I wouldn't feel so bad if the landlord was busy caring for the property or making improvments. The guy doesn't even cut the lawn during the summer months. The grass grows up to my knees and no one comes by to clean the gutters or rake the fall leaves. I'm beginning to think he's greedy for the cash and doesn't care that he could lose a good tenant.

I live in a place where there are 3 units for rent. In my unit, I pay $600 per month. My rent has been going up an average of $25 per year every time I go to renew my lease. I am the only tenant in the unit that has been on time with the rent and causes no problems. Unlike the other renters in the unit who play loud music, have been known to be late with the rent and don't seem to care about taking care of their rental unit. So you would think I would get some type of reward for being a good and faithful tenant, but instead I have to pay another $20-$25 more per month. The landlord claims it's because of propety taxes, but lets be real. Do prperty taxes go up that much in one year, considering there are two other units on the proeprty who also get an increase in their rent too? Looks like its time for me to move out so he can find another sucker!

I've had my rent raised three times in the past year as the owner of the complex keeps changing hands. Every new owner that comes in jacks the rent up on us. I'm now paying over $1,300 for a 2 bed/1 bath.
Additionally, one owner brought in their new automated system resulting in an eviction notice for us as our rent slipped through their cracks. I'm basically fed up with the place and am now looking for apt.
