I was wondering if it was common procedure for home insurance agents to examine the inside and outside of your home before they write up your home insurance policy? I originally thought they examine the outside of the house, but someone told me that their policy may have changed over the years. Is this true? What are home insurance agents looking for when they are examining your house?

My father recently changed home insurance companies and they sent an agent over to examine the property. When he came over, he examined the outside property and my father was instructed to fix the driveway because it was uneven and someone could easily trip and fall. I have heard of some insurance agents who look inside the home to examine the electrical box, check for unrepaired damages, and examine wallpaper, tile, vinyl flooring, inorder to calculate the replacement cost.
