Google Street View Comes To Town
Google has added 37 (Thirty-Seven!) new cities to Street View, including our local area of Sarasota. We added Google Street View to our property details pages in April so we are very excited to see the number of cities almost double since then. This functionality is especially useful as it allows you to not only [...]
2 commentsGoogle Street View Added To Property Details Pages
For areas that Google has Street View available, you will now see a new tab across the top of the property details pages called “Street View”. Clicking this, you’ll get a split screen map with the property marker / little man icon in hybrid view on top and the Street View panorama on bottom.
You can [...]
Major Map Improvement With The Addition of Parcel Boundaries
We’ve added parcel boundaries to our map based search so you can now see the exact lot size for any listed property. This is the most comprehensive boundary data set available anywhere, with over 500 counties and 80 million parcels. If your area isn’t covered yet, the parcel data is expected to grow to encompass [...]
No commentsGoogle Terrain Added!
Quite surprisingly, Google added the new Terrain feature to the API (2.94) in a very timely manner. Even though I talked it down a bit in a previous post, I still think this feature adds a bit of value to the home searching experience. It could look better if it were a proper relief map, [...]
1 commentThe Good And Bad of Google Terrain
Google updated their map with a hideous UI for toggling hybrid/satellite, but more interestingly, they added a new button - “Terrain”. The concept behind this is quite neat, but the implementation seems a bit lacking. The terrain is visually distinctive, but goes a bit too far with the blandness in color and the removal of [...]
No commentsMS Virtual Earth Upgraded to Version 5
We’ve upgraded MS VE to version 5. The most noticeable differences in this version are the support for Firefox, improved 3D imagery, optimized tile loading, and a more difficult to deal with API. Pushpins, Polyline, etc. seem to have been deprecated to make way for Shapes. Google really needs to get its act together when [...]
No commentsGoogle Adding 3Dish Buildings to Map
This is sort of old news, but Google is adding 3Dish buildings to their tiles in major cities in the US. So far there are around 38 cities with these buildings sprouting up.
What bothers me about all this is that these tiles have been around for at least a month, if I remember correctly, but [...]
MS Virtual Earth support for IE6 added
We finally got around to adding MS VE support for IE6 browsers. However, if you want the full MS VE experience you should upgrade to IE7. As a matter of fact, I strongly recommend all users to upgrade to IE7 as its CSS support is much, much better than IE6’s.
Firefox support will be added next, [...]
Zip Code Polygons
I guess the official Google Maps API blog has stopped announcing new version numbers of the GMAPI so I’ve been .06 versions behind on the API.
I did notice that since 2.69, Polygons have been added which is a big plus. I’ve been working on my own implementation of Polygons that I’ll have to toss, but [...]
New Loading Function
Using the newly added GTileLayerOverlay in revision 2.61 of Google Maps API, here is an updated “Loading…” function - http://www.propertymaps.com/maps/loading.php. The layer is semi-opaque and is added/cleared when you click on the “Start Loading”/”Stop Loading” link on the page. The spinning image is just on another layer that is dynamically resized depending on the clientHeight/clientWidth. [...]
